To Shave Or Not To Shave

By Robyn Dowsley - October 09, 2017

Ok ladies, I have a confession to make.  This year I started shaving my face.  Now I don’t mean shaving off those pesky hairs that grow on my chin - I’ve been doing that for years now.  I am talking about shaving my whole face!

What?? Why?? You ask?

Well I noticed that when I would put on make up that it looked ok when I took a photo of it on my phone. It looked ok in the mirror but when I took a photo of myself with my DSLR under my studio lights that I could see all the hairs on my face.  I hated the way the make up sat on my face.

Now of course once I had noticed it I couldn’t not un-see it and would scan myself in the mirror and notice that yep - my hairs were showing up through my make up.

So what could I do about it??  I remember when the idea of shaving my face crossed my mind.  I had several thoughts about it… could I?  What if I cut myself? How much better would my make up look?  What would I do it with??  I looked at my husband's electric shaver but wasn’t feeling brave enough to use that so I went for my razor!

I was super careful out of fear that I would cut myself and have to explain to someone how I got the cut on my face!

Once it was done I could not believe how silky smooth my face felt!  Now I never thought that I had been all that hairy on my face before but when I shaved it - man what a difference.

I applied my make up after shaving and took a photo.  It had worked!  I didn’t have hairs sticking up all through my make up.  Flawless at last!

So now I swear by it

So are there any risks associated with shaving your face?

Well of course you can cut yourself just as you can when shaving hair from any other part of your body.  And just like you can get ingrown hairs and shaving rash from shaving other parts of your body these would also apply to your face.

What about benefits?

Shaving your face is also known as dermaplaning and has many benefits including removing the deep layers of dead skin cells.  This process also means your skin is going to be smoother and that products will be able to penetrate the skin more easily.

So if you are like me and don’t like your facial hair why not go ahead and try it.  Use a razor like I did or get an eyebrow razor like the Tinkle Razor. It is one of the most popular tools for shaving facial hair.

So let me know your thoughts.

Have you ever shaved your face?  If not  would you ever try it?
